Depth Editor Debug

Motivated by the tragic 2005 subway and bus bombings in London, New York's Metro Transit Authority (MTA) hurried a contract with the high-tech defense technology giant Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin promised the MTA a surveillance system of unsurpassed efficacy, driven by computer vision and artificial intelligence systems. The security system turned out to be vaporware and the contract collapsed under lawsuits.

This photography series imagines what it would have looked like to see through the eyes of that surveillance machine.

Each image is generated via visualizing a dataset of 3-dimensional captured space and color. Each capture can generate endless angles on the same subject matter.

Process

The images were captured by a combination of DSLR photograph and Microsoft Kinect depth scan by Alexander Porter, and prints were generated through custom software written by James George. This was the first collaboration with Alexander Porter- a collaboration that has lead to the founding of Scatter and the creation of Depthkit.
